The Smugglers Return - Worthing

Nestled on 112 Ham Road in Worthing, The Smugglers Return - Worthing is one of those rare finds where the charm of a classic British pub meets the energy of a buzzing local hub. From the moment you step inside, there's a sense that this place doesn’t just serve food and drinks-it serves personality. The décor whispers tales of seafaring smugglers and hidden treasures, but the real treasure here? The atmosphere.

If you’re into pubs that keep things lively and unapologetically fun, The Smugglers Return is absolutely your kind of spot. It’s more than just a place to grab a pint-it’s a full-on experience. Whether you’re showing up for the live music, belting out your favorite tune during karaoke nights, or catching a football match with your mates on a Saturday afternoon, this place knows how to put on a good time. The bar games are a big hit, especially with the regulars who treat the pool table like a battlefield and the dartboard like sacred ground.

One of the big standouts here is the beer selection. It’s not just your standard lagers and ales-there’s a great beer list with local brews, ciders like Strongbow, and rotating craft taps that keep the selection interesting. And for those in the mood for something stronger, the bar also mixes up proper cocktails, pours generous glasses of wine, and has a solid spirits range to suit every palate. Happy hour? Oh yes, they do that too-happy-hour drinks at The Smugglers Return hit the spot, especially when paired with some casual banter from behind the bar.

Food-wise, it’s pub grub with attitude. While the menu isn’t sprawling, the dishes they do serve are done well. Fried chicken is crispy, juicy, and totally addictive-ideal finger food for a night of beer and laughs. You might also catch Carnitas on special, bringing a little Tex-Mex flair into the mix. But what sets this pub apart isn’t just the food or drinks-it’s the people. From the welcoming staff to the regulars who know their barstool like it’s home, there’s a strong sense of community that new visitors tend to notice right away.

Accessibility is also part of the experience. With a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet, and car park, the venue makes a real effort to be inclusive, ensuring everyone can enjoy what’s on offer without hassle. Seating is available both indoors and out, and if the British weather plays nice, grabbing a cold one in the outdoor area is a real treat.

Now, a quick heads-up: The Smugglers Return doesn’t offer delivery or takeaway. But honestly, this isn’t the kind of place you order from-it’s the kind of place you go to. It’s about being part of the energy, the music, the laughter, and yes, the occasional off-key karaoke performance that somehow still brings the house down.

Another cool thing? Outside food is allowed, which gives it a bit of a BYO twist that locals have grown to love. You can grab a bite from your favorite nearby takeaway and still settle in here with a pint. It’s that laid-back, come-as-you-are attitude that keeps people coming back.

Whether you're after a pint with personality, a night of dancing and music, or just somewhere to hang with friends and feel at ease, The Smugglers Return - Worthing makes it happen-loudly, proudly, and with a healthy splash of rum-soaked character.

Great place to hold a party! Had the whole of the main bar to ourselves on a Saturday night and as long as enough drinks were purchased, no fee charged to hire. Was allowed to store food and balloons there in advance. If you need a venue for a party, I would definitely recommend here.

Local pub with a large bar and a sports bar. The drinks are reasonably priced and the locals seem friendly. Quite busy whenever I have visited. I do not know if food is available.
